Bugatti
Plaster research model for a mid-engine, two-seater coupe
For the1990 International Car Show in Turin, Giugiaro decided to freely interpret a design theme that was classical yet advanced. The designer's passion for the Bugatti theme was born at the time of this coupe and it later found a full expression in the Bugatti EB 112 saloon.

BRAND: Bugatti

MODEL: ID 90

YEAR: 1990

BODY TYPE: Sports car

POWER SUPPLY: Combustion

CATEGORY: Concept car

DESIGNER: Giorgetto Giugiaro

The design respects the extremely compact dimensions laid down by Bugatti Automobili in Campogalliano: 4,100 mm long and 1,840 mm wide. In order to respect the historical tradition of the Molsheim firm, Giugiaro abandons classical grey for a light metallic blue. A decidedly sporty compact two-seater, the Bugatti ID 90 is characterized by soft, flowing lines. The car's profile is marked by the elongated glazed dome whose tips extend beyond the axis of the wheel centres. Compared with competition cars where the glazed dome looks like a semi-circle, or to traditional saloons where the side-glazing and roof describe a trapezium, the cross-section of the Bugatti ID 90 shows a single rounded curve, a perfect compromise between a competition car and a saloon.
