DESIGNER: Giorgetto Giugiaro

Giugiaro found himself facing a theme that he didn't like, to have to make a three-box version from a pre-existing two-box model. This time, the job was made more difficult for two main reasons: the original had been on the market for four years and, for the first time, he had to work on someone else's design (the Ritmo-Strada had been done by the FIAT Styling Center).

Giugiaro faced up to the job with his well-known professionalism. He illustrated a number of concepts, some of which featured high tails and imposing trunks. The Spanish manufacturer, however, favored a more traditional idea with a slightly downward sloping trunk.
