Medici I
Maserati
Prototype for a big sedan with a sporty feel
Over a Maserati frame and 5-liter V8 mechanical assembly, Giugiaro designed a shape that detracts nothing from the typical limousine comfort, despite its being compact and projecting a clearly sporty personality.

The philosophy underlying this study is summed up in the car's name, Medici, in homage to the celebrated Florence family that won fame and prestige by linking to business aptitude a renewed existential outlook, the enjoyment of beauty and the love for culture and the arts. Giugiaro thus sought a shape that would not turn heads for opulence and an abundance of kitschy details, but for the balance and elegance of its design. Shape-wise the Medici is reminiscent of the Asso di Picche, looking almost like its fourdoor "big sister".
