The redesign of an American classic
Three years after the Ford Mustang Automobile Quarterly, Giugiaro got another opportunity to redesign an American classic.
BRAND: Oldsmobile
MODEL: Toronado Thor
YEAR: 1967
BODY TYPE: Sports car
POWER SUPPLY: Combustion
CATEGORY: Concept car
DESIGNER: Giorgetto Giugiaro
Built on a chassis that was the largest and most powerful front-wheel-drive model of the time, it was first displayed at the 1967 Turin Motor Show. Giugiaro was able to make such a car sleek and streamlined, thanks to a very elongated elliptical design formed by the side lights and the happy connection between the slender pavilion and the powerful truncated tail. Also very successful was the frontal view of the Oldsmobile Thor with the sobriety of the low grille, above which wide eyelids conceal the double headlamps by day.
