At the request of then Volkswagen Group CEO Ferdinand Piech, Fabrizio Giugiaro was tasked to design a Volkswagen sports car, with instructions that it had to accommodate a 12-cylinder engine in a W configuration, be mid-engined, and also be able to be configured with Volkswagen's Syncro all-wheel drive system. In 2001, at the Tokyo Motor Show, Volkswagen Group released their most powerful W12 sports car concept yet, the W12 Nardò (referring to the Nardò Ring vehicle test track near the Italian city of Nardò). The engine was rated at 441 kW (600 PS; 591 bhp) and 621 N⋅m of torque; it could accelerate from a standstill to 100 km/h in about 3.5 seconds, and had a top speed of 357 km/h, weighing 1,200 kg. On 23 February 2002, this W12 took the world record for all speed classes over 24 hours over the Nardò Ring at Lecce, covering a distance of 7,740.576 kilometres, at an average speed of 322.891 km/h.

The Maserati Coupé is a true four-seater capable of comfortably seating two adults in the rear seats. It has a wheelbase of 2,660 mm which is about 76 mm longer than the rival Jaguar XK8 and 305 mm longer than a Porsche 911. Overall vehicle length is 4,523 mm, width is 1,822 mm, and height is 1,305 mm. The design is similar to the preceding 3200 GT but the boomerang shaped taillights were replaced in favour of more conventional units. The Spyder was first unveiled to the public at the 2001 Frankfurt Auto Show with the Coupé's debut following shortly thereafter at the 2002 Detroit Auto Show.

In need of a new concept car to present at the Geneva Salon in 2002, Giorgetto Giugiaro decided to reconsider the prestigious Alfa Romeo compact coupes. Of all the car companies out there, Alfa Romeo was the brand that had featured most prominently in his career. The first standard production car he designed was the Alfa Romeo 2000 Sprint Bertone, and his entrepreneurial adventure was born precisely to bring the Alfasud project to life.

For the Alfa Romeo Brera prototype, Giugiaro set out to look within himself, fine-tuning the concept of a contemporary, elegant, refined, and essential car that could stand as the quintessence of the brand and its history and express technological development, though compressed into an almost intimate and discreet blend: the very requirements of elegance and classicism, of objects that are designed to last over time.

The body was entirely in carbon fiber and driven by a powerful mid-front engine with eight cylinders in a 90 degree V, offering more than 4,000 cc and 400 HP. The only hedonistic touch was a door opening, operated by a patented hinge that projects the door up when turned outward.

The audience's reaction at the Geneva Motor Show was so undeniably positive that the Fiat Group, invited by Alfa's management, decided to put the prototype into production. The entire project development was entrusted to Giugiaro’s company, who took care of the engineering, the computer simulations, the validation tests for the international type approvals, the prototype construction for the bench and road tests, and the pre-production units.

The 2+2, released on to the market in 2005, lost its bottom-hinged doors that could be raised like butterfly wings, and the pretentious single piece components seen on the Motor Show version: a clear debt due to the rough laws of market economy. Anyway the silhouette of the front end was the archetype for the family feeling of Alfa production during the 2000s. Alfa Romeo and Giugiaro won the Compasso d'Oro awarded by the ADI in 2004.

With this model, Maserati returned to producing a spider after a seven-year absence from the relevant market. The 4200 Spyder came in two versions, named GT and CambioCorsa. The CambioCorsa was the first Maserati car to mount a gearbox whose technological advances came from Formula 1. The Spyder is derived directly from the 3200 GT, but with a distinct evolution starting with the engine. The styling is also inspired by the previous model, but with a much shorter wheelbase, more appropriate for a two-seater and better suited to make the car more agile in sporty driving. The taillights are also redesigned, starting with a survey of customers in the United States.

The 320S is intended to chart the way for Maserati's return to the United States, a market where the brand has had a great racing past, as underscored by the car's blue and white livery, in the tradition of Maseratis that have raced and won in the United States in the past. The 320S, while still at the concept stage, also offers a preview of the future Maserati Spider. Stylistically, the 320S stands out in particular for its upper body design, which features a "barchetta"-type solution, with a small windshield limited to the area in front of the driver, and an exposed roll-over bar with aerodynamic fairing at the rear. The passenger side is enclosed and fairing-less. These styling features, in addition to the single center rearview mirror, recall the best Maserati sports cars of the past, models such as the 200, 300S, 450S, and especially the Tipo 60/61 "Birdcage."
