The Massif was created as a rugged, spartan off-roader suitable for the most extreme situations; the design, approved in early 2006, was developed with the support of Santana Motor, which supplied much of the mechanicals and components. The front end features a large U-shaped grille with Iveco branding incorporated, the headlights are circular in shape while the bumpers are made of plastic and unpainted. The side features domed wheel arches protected by bumper shields and a small air intake at the ends of the hood increases the amount of air available to cool the engine. The tail, on the other hand, features the spare tire on the tailgate, and the pickup versions have either rough plastic trim around the headlights or a protective metal grille.

The model's “aeronautical” lines leap out at first impact. A longitudinal polycarbonate cockpit dome emerges on the left fascia while the right side in a central position houses the BMW 12-cylinder 7 Series engine with hydrogen generators. The two argonauts are arranged in tandem in the fuselage, sunk into an ergonomically comfortable and super-assisted wing. The acronym “VAD.HO” refers both to the Vadò region, the Moncalieri industrial area that has been home to Giugiaro's company headquarters since 1974, and to the hydrogen propulsion adopted (H-go).

The external dimensions of the European model have been slightly increased from the previous series, reaching a length of 3,460 mm and a height of 1,530 mm, while the width remains unchanged. The Japanese version, on the other hand, remains compliant with keicar approval standards with length limited to 3,395 mm. Its mass production began in 1995 and continued until 2023. The Move model was designed and put into production to strengthen Daihatsu Motor Company's position in the kei-car segment, which is the segment of micro-cars using small displacement engines and low kerb weight typical of Japan. The fourth-generation Move was introduced in October 2006 and its design was a departure from the boxy look of the previous generations.

This comes after the highly praised front-end styling is also transferred to models already in production, such as the 156 and 147. The production Brera, while retaining the general layout in the original design, takes advantage of the Fiat-GM premium platform shortened in wheelbase from the Alfa 159, which uses a front end with deformable high wishbones and a steel 3-arm Multilink rear end with aluminum hub carriers and telescopic hydraulic dampers and coil springs. The car, homologated as a classic 2+2-seater, features a less extreme powertrain than the prototype version, and replaces the upward-rotating doors with a more classic opening.
